Welcome To Saginaw Subterranean Strings Web Site
Saginaw Subterranean Strings has been a hammered dulcimer/acoustic instrument performing group since 1992. We have enjoyed entertaining audiences but now we're taking it easy. We may get together for a potluck, and maybe even a special performance or two, but since some of our core members are not in Michigan this summer, we will probably just relax and enjoy the summer. (We will not be at the Carriage Festival in Gladwin in August.)
Sub-Strings Perform at Wescourt
Sub-Srings played for several Red Hat parties at Wescourt.
Thank you, Sue Smith, for the video memory.
The Sound of Sub-Strings
The first four recordings were made at a practice session; "Michigan Saturday Night" at the November 24th, 2007, Frankenmuth concert. The files are large. The download may take a while, even with high speed internet.
- "Dark Town Strutter's Ball"
"Bells of St. Mary's"
"Festival Rag" (by Bill Robinson)
"Angels We Have Heard on High"
"Michigan Saturday Night" (by Judi Morningstar - vocal by Gayle Koehler)
History of the Club
Gayle Koehler and Gloria & Herb Hansen started the club in 1992. The practices began in the Hansen's basement and from that came the name. The first performance was for a talent show at St. Mary's Medical Center. We weren't part of the talent, but instead played before the show started.
We're proud of our many years of the Snowfest Concerts, the Haithco Concerts, performances at the Lumbermen's Festival and countless other events. We love playing for "seniors," although most in our club fit in that category themselves.
